Shaped by stories: my journey begins

Growing up in the Deep South, listening to my Granny's captivating stories, ignited my passion for writing. From a young age, I was always with a pencil and paper, creating characters and mapping out their journeys. This early love for storytelling blossomed over the years, enhancing both my writing and my ability to articulate complex narratives. Writing serves as an essential outlet for managing my mental health, fulfilling my creative instincts, and sharing my talent with the world. It’s more than just a profession; it's a fundamental part of who I am.

From competition to conversation: my speaking journey

In 1998, I proudly won the Alabama Public Speaking competition, later representing the state at the national level where I finished as second runner-up. This experience sparked my desire to speak publicly. In 2007, I launched a speaking tour discussing faith and depression, highlighting how faith can strengthen one's ability to manage mental health challenges. Since then, I've had the privilege of speaking across five states, authored four books, and published over 150 articles and columns. My platform aims not only to entertain but also to raise awareness and offer hope towards eliminating the stigma associated with mental health.

The heart of a Southern storyteller

My writing style is best described as that of a Southern storyteller. Most of my characters are rooted in small towns but leave a large impact on their communities, embodying traits inspired by the real people I meet. With every book, story, column, blog, or podcast episode, I draw inspiration from those who have passed through my life. To me, ordinary folks are truly extraordinary, and their stories deserve to be told with warmth, authenticity, and a touch of Southern charm.

"Rob's stories are a comfort, a challenge, and a reflection of the deep South soul. His work is truly inspiring."
